Copenhagen  is the capital and most populated city of Denmark with 591,481 inhabitants and an urban population of 1,263,698 (as of 1 January 2015). It is situated on the Zealand and Amager islands, and is separated from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of Øresund. The city is divided into several municipalities, including Copenhagen Municipality, for administrative purposes. Founded as a fishing village in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark-Norway in the early 15th century.
